I'm not a big expert in soccer boots, but I've noticed that lace straps inside the shoe are left uncovered. I could think there is a partial inner bootie for the forefoot/medial area, but quite a big portion of them seems uncovered.

Is it done to save weight? Did you tested this solution in the past or it's just a common detail for soccer boots? In basketball shoes those straps are ALWAYS covered from a lining layer, so it's interesting for me to see this different construction....

thanks for the comments.

yes, the lace webbings are left uncovered on the 6.2 Concept FG. There is no inner booties on this shoe (it is the 8.2 Concept FG which has the inner sock).

The lacing system has been designed sa you see it to actually improve fit. because the lace webbing is attached only at the top of the eyestay and inside the shoe at the edge of upper and insole board, the fit when lacing actually helps to better contain the foot, acting like a cage.

it is not a normal detail in soccer boots, but i know i have seen similar construction in some running shoes and also fitness shoes. not sure if i have ever seen it in basketabll shoes.

as for testing, we have carried out lots of testing with professional football players on this and all of our models, and i can tell you that it works great and the response so far has been very good to the shoe and lacing system.

What you say is very interesting.

This construction creates a direct lace web to foot loads sharing, so outer upper acts "only" to keep everything together and to protect the foot. I imagine testing regarded different strings width and materials.

Are you using stiff or kinda elastic material for the webbing?

As I think to it, it's also true that a minimal lining layer does not provide any load spreding over the upper foot surface, so it could be removed without changing the performance level of the shoe and slightly reducing weight.

Thanks and ciao Pietro [MC from core77]
